Swim Deep bio (abridged):

Swim Deep are a British indie pop band formed in Birmingham, England, in 2011. Their line-up currently consists of Austin Williams (vocals), Cavan McCarthy (bass), James Balmont (keyboards) and Thomas Fiquet (drums).

Originally identified as part of the Digbeth-based ‘B-Town’ scene, their debut album Where the Heaven Are We (2013) received critical acclaim and reached number 20 in the UK Album Charts—with the band performing across the UK, Europe, Asia and North America, and appearing at festivals such as Glastonbury, SXSW, Benicassim and Reading and Leeds. Their more experimental follow-up record, Mothers (2016) was named an album of the year by publications such as NME and DIY. A 2016 UK tour culminated in a sold-out performance at London’s Roundhouse, with a second appearance at Glastonbury Festival prefacing support slots with The 1975, The Libertines, Wolf Alice and Metronomy in North America and Europe.

After a line-up change, the band released their third album, Emerald Classics, in 2019 and performed at major festivals in Thailand, Indonesia and China as part of an extensive tour of Asia. In 2020, they were announced as the openers for Harry Styles at London’s 20,000-capacity O2 Arena show. Their fourth album, There’s a Big Star Outside… (2024), produced by Bill Ryder-Jones, saw the group achieve renewed critical acclaim and complete tours of the UK and Europe, including appearances at Latitude, Truck and Reeperbahn festivals.
